The Sequoyah Book Award was named after the Native American who developed the Cherokee syllabary. It is awarded annually to a book from three different levels: children's (grades 3-5), intermediate (grades 6-9), and high school. Oklahoma students who read at least three books from their grade level masterlist will vote for their favorite book in April. Their votes will be tallied with other students in Oklahoma schools. The author whose book receives the most votes will win the Sequoyah Book Award.
