Mrs. Susan Adkins, a proud native of Grady County and Middleberg teacher of forty years, was inducted into the Grady County Teacher Hall of Fame in January. She attended Chickasha Public Schools and earned a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. Immediately after graduation, Susan began her teaching career at Middleberg School, never imagining that the classroom where she started would become the center of her professional life for four decades
To Susan, Middleberg is more than a school—it is a family, a tradition, and a home. She devoted all forty years of her teaching career to the same classroom and grade level, inspiring and guiding more than 800 students. Beyond building their academic foundations, she nurtured their character, confidence, and love of learning, leaving an enduring mark on each of their lives. One of her favorite memories came in the early 1990s during a big winter storm. The playground was covered in ice, and for several weeks, her students would run off the porch and slide across the icy surface like a giant slip-and-slide, laughing and enjoying every moment—a joyful reminder of the small, unforgettable moments that make teaching so rewarding.
Outside of the classroom. She is blessed to share her life with her husband, Sean, daughter Kaitlin, and stepson Harrison.Together their hearts are rooted in faith, family, service to others and tradition.
